Safeguarding Officer

Safeguarding is a core component in WaterAid (WA) to adhere, hence the incumbent will play a pivotal role in championing safeguarding and providing relevant information in the organisation. S/he will ensure that organisational safeguarding principles are appropriately implemented following the relevant policy-procedures and keeping the WA management updated on the directives to adhere. S/he will be responsible for facilitating safeguarding awareness interventions across the organization and facilitate down streaming towards community level through respective focals in WA and partners. S/he will also promote related activities and arrangements within the WA office and its partners, ensuring that these are in line with WA policies and operational plan. As a whole, s/he will support the senior leader to promote execution of safeguarding principles, identify safeguarding risks, develop action plans, monitor progress and report on safeguarding concerns.
1. Awareness building and advisory support • Understand and internalise the suite of safeguarding policies and procedures in WaterAid • Raise awareness of safeguarding via the provision of information, including through induction, briefings and training • Contextualise the training materials for better understanding of staff including programme/ project based focal's, partners, other representatives and community people • Promote awareness among the staff through refreshers training at regular interval • Promote a culture to stimulate senior leaders to follow, practice as well as keep safeguarding in their regular discussion agenda • Facilitate undertaking safeguarding awareness raising interventions and implementation among staff, partners and representatives • Undertake appropriate measures that the safeguarding is adhered, also concerns and incidents are reported following the set protocol • Perform as the focal point to receive information, concern, feedback; and to record and act on responding promptly • Act as a confidential point of support, advice and guidance for any member of staff or partners with concerns • Contribute to learning across the network of SFPs in country and globally • Induct overseas/external visitors on safeguarding, as needed 2. Communication Materials • Ensure developing appropriate communications materials containing information on safeguarding concern and reporting details; and to update on regular interval. • Ensure the availability of posters, IEC materials in WA offices, project areas; and those are placed/ displayed rightly. • Socialise safeguarding Incident Reporting Protocol and Focal Points’ contact information. 3. Partner support • Facilitate safeguarding awareness training with appropriate training materials for relevant partner staff in coordination of respective programme/project focal of WaterAid • Visit to the project areas to monitor safeguarding arrangements are there and reporting protocols are disseminated • Provide on-site-support/advise, FGD with children, vulnerable adults etc. to collect relevant information or issues to work on • Arrange refreshers training at regular interval • Map out the support services network information for effective victim support 4. Risk Assessment • Support the senior leaders to identify safeguarding risks aligning with relevant tools, develop action plans and follow up • Monitor risk mitigation process of individual projects and come up with appropriate findings for management decision • Act as point of advice on risk assessment for others planning events, trips or activities involving children/young people. 5. Investigation and reporting • Participate in safeguarding incident case investigations, as assigned • Ensure responding on queries from designated authorities • Reporting relevant concern, information, or updates to designated authorities • Fulfil any other safeguarding reporting requirements 6. Representation • Represent WaterAid Bangladesh in different local, regional, global platform, as appropriate These responsibilities are subject to change upon review by the line manager from time to time.
Education : Post-graduation degree in any discipline from a reputed university. Experience: Minimum 03 years’ job experience; with adequate expertise in relevant areas. Skills and Competencies: • Demonstrated presentation and communication skills both in Bangla and English • Excellent facilitation and mentoring skills with different groups of audiences • Good computer skill specially in MS office package • Must be a person who is self-motivated and possess personal integrity, flexible attitude, transparency, proactive stance and respect for gender, diversity and organisation culture • Ability to work under pressure and to prioritise and deal with competing demands to deliver results in time • Good team building spirit, non-judgemental with excellent inter-personal skills (particularly active listening) and capacity to understand people from all walks of life • Allure cooperation from other teams and should be able to draw confidence from others • Ability to establish good relationship and rapport with stakeholders and partners; and maintain network outside the organisation.
